With the darkness gradually deepening the night, the air is saturated with electrified excitement and tense tonalities. Like layers of heat in the glistening desert sun, a multitude of distant firecrackers sonically intertwine into a carpet of unison flickering, With a big braaaam the orchestra abruptly swells into full swing, spreading the strings skyward in a whirling crescendo vortex of sound and colour. The striped tent is fully packed for the big night, when upon the ringmaster’s tripple snip, the curtains finally swing open in a flash. Magically illuminating the scenery of curiosity, a swarm of rainbow coloured fireworks explodes in a bouquet of flowers of light.

The liontamer, the contortionist, headless magicians in hats, jitter-free jugglers, polylimbic hybrid beasts and rearranging siamese twins. Flocking around the ringmaster in an acrobatic, pagoda-like formation – they have all come to celebrate the 50th release of the multisensory merry-go-round that is Cirque Du Son.
