The circus lights slowly dim while an eerie crackling and snaring sound is the harbinger from the shadows. Creeping straight from the spider’s lair Jesper Mauerhoff leads his dark and driving Tarantula EP on a leash. Pushing and grinding the title track is an octopodal beast of a tune – an arachnoid tour-de-force of dance – deep, fat & dark. Juxtaposed with the melodic deeptech of Desillusion as well as the sunnier vibes of Genesis, CIRQ028 again showcases the outstanding skills of production from powerhouse Chris Van Gen AKA Jesper Mauerhoff.
